Families in Trauma was set up by a husband and wife team who found themselves dealing with a traumatic family situation, but with little experience of how to handle it, and without knowing where to turn for support. They were shocked to find how difficult it can be to access services or support at exactly the time it was needed.
They also knew that when trauma strikes, it can leave individuals and families feeling isolated, even from their family and friends, as they struggle to come to terms with the experience. Although Gp's counsellors and other mental health professionals offer assistance, this can often be met with resistance due to this being seen as an "academic" experience, as they may not have personally experienced anything of this sort themselves. Therefore, peer support has been used liberally throughout the site as it is often very powerful.
So Families in Trauma was born out of traumatic experiences and we hope that it will help many of you who are struggling to make sense of your experience and trying to navigate a very difficult path.
We now offer a range of services to the public and corporate including Trauma informed Peer to Peer and Emotional CPR and focus on recovery in contrast to traditional approaches. Our team has a wide gamut of skills and qualifications, and we work throughout Scotland and UK.
