Helping Family Members
-
Be patient and understanding as everyone’s recovery may be different.
-
Try to offer practical support such as help with shopping or housework or just be available to listen.
-
Don’t pressure anyone into talking if they don’t want to.
-
Help your loved one to socialize, even if it means their accompanying you for a while to various activities you attend.
-
Take care of your own emotional and mental wellbeing and if you feel overwhelmed, don’t forget that you may need help also.
-
Try not to take the trauma symptoms personally.
