2012 - 2015
Our roots grew from traumatic family events, and we started to slowly understand that many others had dealt with similar issues and felt very "let down" by a system that seemed wholly inadequate. There were gaping cracks in the system that families often fell through - and we wanted to fill some of those gaps. Attitudes were starting to shift in the field of mental, thankfully, and "lived experience" and "peer support" were being recognised as valuable tools that could be used to address the never-ending queues for "clinical" support. Training soon began in "emotional CPR" too, a very innovative method of addressing the public mental health crisis. Our journey into using "lived experience" , "peer- support" and Emotional CPR. had begun.
2015 - 2019
Set up as a social enterprise and registered as a Ltd Company by guarantee (no shareholders) - with eventual aim of charitable status. Began our journey into formally learning how to deliver Peer2Peer using Scottish Recovery Network's framework but developing this into a "trauma informed course." We soon also saw increasing numbers asking to be trained in Emotional CPR as part of their peer training too.
2019 - 2022
Began delivering our own trauma informed Peer2Peer training course incorporating eCPR to deepen the learning experience. Volunteers came forward after their training to start using their new found skills and started supporting other individuals using our eLearning course as a spring board for discussions. Peer2Peer was being used very effectively and in demand by individuals, third sector organisations, and public sector clients such as our local Council, NHS and Police Scotland .
2023
Peer2Peer Training grew as individuals, third sector, public bodies and corporates saw their own staff benefit from the self development techniques incorporated within peer training. Individually we saw our trainees start to take back power in their own personal recovery journeys. We started working in partnership along with other organisations with Enable Scotland on a Glasgow City Council contract. This allowed us to employ 5 new members of staff (mostly from the peers we had trained). We also won a few "Peer Awards" along the way for our work in championing peer development, and finished off 2023 with us partnering with the British Institute of Human Rights to create a booklet championing the rights of families. This was launched for Human Rights Day 2023 in the House of Lords, Westminster.
